WTF? With all the issues that are already going on about flights landing and getting much needed aid and food in, how can anyone think this is whats needed and a good idea and a much needed priority? I mean even if your faith blinded you to the point that you thought that, surely someone somewhere in or around this gr...oup would speak up and say "you know this might actually get us more negative publicity than anything helpful"

U.S. group sends solar-powered Bibles to Haiti

MIAMI (Reuters) - As international aid agencies rush food, water and medicine to Haiti's earthquake victims, a U.S. faith-based group is sending Bibles to Haitians in their hour of need.

Not any Bible. These are solar-powered audible Bibles that can broadcast the holy scriptures in Haitian Creole to 300 people at a time.

Called the "Proclaimer," the audio Bible delivers "digital quality" and is designed for "poor and illiterate people," the Faith Comes By Hearing group said. It added 600 of the devices were already on their way to Haiti.

The Albuquerque-based organisation said it was responding to the Haitian crisis by "providing faith, hope and love through God's Word in audio."

With tens of thousands of Port-au-Prince residents living outdoors because their homes have collapsed or they fear aftershocks from Tuesday's quake, the audio Bible can bring them "hope and comfort that comes from knowing God has not forgotten them through this tragedy," the group said on its website.

"The Proclaimer is self-powered and can play the Bible in the jungle, desert or ... even on the moon!" said the website http://www.faithcomesbyhearing.com/.

Is glad to be back home, but feeling a little flat, alone, and isolated... strange... maybe distance and solitude is easier to accept and deal with when its a genuine distance... or maybe its just the inactivity and relaxed pace after 2 weeks of cramming so much in... either that or I'm just losing my mind :-/

Woah, this has the potential to be a huge story... Google and others hacked by sources out of China attempting to access info/gmail of Human Rights Activists, and now looking at stopping or closing down their filtered google.cn site/engine

A new approach to China

1/12/2010 03:00:00 PM
Like many other well-known organizations, we face cyber attacks of varying degrees on a regular basis. In mid-December, we detected a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property from Google. However, it soon became clear that what at first appeared to be solely a security incident--albeit a significant one--was something quite different.

First, this attack was not just on Google. As part of our investigation we have discovered that at least twenty other large companies from a wide range of businesses--including the Internet, finance, technology, media and chemical sectors--have been similarly targeted. We are currently in the process of notifying those companies, and we are also working with the relevant U.S. authorities.

Second, we have evidence to suggest that a primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. Based on our investigation to date we believe their attack did not achieve that objective. Only two Gmail accounts appear to have been accessed, and that activity was limited to account information (such as the date the account was created) and subject line, rather than the content of emails themselves.

Ok, after a couple of weeks holiday away, am back home, so time to really focus on and start the new year... not so much a new years resolution type deal with too many rules and definitions, but still a chance to renew, refresh, motivate, evolve

So, one area will be here in LJ with my blog... looking back over the last year, especially the second half, I know my posting here did become very sporadic and limited and, well, superficial in many ways, as much or more just pics and jokes and songs as anything with substance. Not to say that there isnt still a place for that or that I'd ever stop posting those :-) but like all things its a matter of balance. I think at least in part thats cause I havent felt as drawn to LJ as I used to, that for me it's lost a lot of the sense of community I used to feel.

Now this definitely is not a shot at any of my friends here, many who have been along for the ride for such a long time, quite the opposite, your part of what has made the journey so enjoyable for so long :-) and I value all of you, but like anything or anywhere things can become stagnant without refreshing and renewal, as with any social group or friendship, some people will move on or drift away to something or somewhere different.

So, rambling along, to the point I was aiming for lol... time to do a little pimping out of myself I think, to expand and find new journals to read, personal or community. If any of you have people or places out there that you think are worth adding, reading, knowing, that I dont already have, then feel free to mention or suggest them, and/or just pimp/promote/suggest me wherever lol

Think with all this I'll probably look at doing a layout and format and colour redesign as well, just to freshen things up and as part of the renewal... so again, watch this space :-)

To all my friends, old and new, whatever your thoughts, beliefs or practices, here's a thought for you, hoping the next few days are full of happiness, joy, and pleasure... enjoy the song, enjoy the festivities, and enjoy the new years/decade ahead :-)

I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don’t care about clever I don’t care about funny
I want loads of clothes and fuck loads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them

And i’ll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
Cause everyone knows that’s how you get famous
I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror
I’m on the right track yeah I’m on to a winner

I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cause I’m being taken over by the fear

Life’s about film stars and less about mothers
It’s all about fast cars and cussing each other
But it doesn’t matter cause I’m packing plastic
and that’s what makes my life so fucking fantastic

And I am a weapon of massive consumption
And its not my fault it’s how I’m programmed to function
I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror
I’m on the right track yeah we're on to a winner

I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cause I’m being taken over by the fear

Forget about guns and forget ammunition
Cause I’m killing them all on my own little mission
Now I’m not a saint but I’m not a sinner
Now everything's cool as long as I’m gettin thinner

I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cause I’m being taken over by fear

Liberal MP rubbishes human link to climate change

By Online parliamentary correspondent Emma Rodgers

Federal Liberal MP Dennis Jensen says the cause of climate change is still in dispute and has attacked environmentalists as "anti-democratic alarmists".

Dr Jensen, who has spoken out previously on the issue, has also called for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to be disbanded.

His comments come as the Coalition struggles with internal division on climate change policy.

In a speech to open the Australian Environment Foundation's annual conference in Canberra today, Dr Jensen said the question of whether climate change was caused by human activity was still up for debate.

My thoughts... well first and foremost, I am glad that I have recently moved and this guy is no longer my local member!

In regards to the debate over whether this is purely natural ecological change or human induced, well while I am not an expert (then again I dont think this is Dr Jensens area of study/expertise either) like many things it probably comes down to some combination of the two factors. It may be part of a natural ecological cycle but what we do and produce I am sure would at the very least have amplified any effects.

To me, that then becomes the key point, in that whatever was the key driver or instigator, we can have an effect and help lessen the impacts by changing what we do and output, not just in terms of overall global warming but on our day to day health and living. To say that "oh these behaviours didn't cause or create it" does not mean that we still shouldn't change those behaviours to lessen the problem. That to me is like a patient saying "Oh it wasn't my diet that caused my diabetes, that came from genetic/hereditary reasons, so why should I change my diet to try and fix it?"

In the end, no matter what the cause was, if there are actions that can be taken to try and solve a problem then surely it is worth trying. Even if it may not be a direct benefit, it has to help the general health and well-being of our home, this planet. To continue on the previous medical analogy, it may be that changing the diet doesn't directly fix the diabetes, but if it helps improve your general underlying health and well-being, its got to make coping and dealing with the other problems easier.

Happy end for Humpty after controversial rewrite

The West Australian October 19, 2009, 5:47 am

Accident-prone nursery rhyme character Humpty Dumpty has been given a happier ending thanks to some controversial tweaking of his story by the BBC.

Britain's public broadcaster changed the words to the 1810 rhyme for one of its children's shows so all those who originally couldn't "put Humpty together again" after his great fall could now make "Humpty happy again".

OK for all the Politically Correct wowsers out there, leave our classics alone! We do not need these sanitised, kids today can deal with it, we lived with it and didn't come out scarred!Or are they saying that Humpty being scrambled and Little Miss Muffett being scared of spiders is to blame for all of modern societies woes? Ok I will admit the Noddy/Gollywog thing I am a little more ambivilent on, especially as thats new books or material, not rewriting old stories... but even so...

And more specifically, the editors and headline writers... seems that spending 2 years in australia from age 11 now qualifies you to be defined as an "Aussie"... at least for attention grabbing purposes...

I mean its still a sad and shocking story... but "Aussie porn star"? really?
